Mien Lutje Laif by The Yellowish Summer Evening.

It is one of my favourite songs. don't worry if you have no clue what he's singing about. It's Gronings, a dialect of Dutch.

The flute just grabs me. And I love the band name.

What does one do when one can't get a song out of one's head? Well, this one finds a new one to replace it.

I am blaming [livejournal.com profile] arwen_lune for the original idea, since she introduced me to it. I do not, however, blame her for googling for an hour trying to find it in order to get rid of "Onward Christian Soldiers".

Yay Dancing Bananas!

Been extremely busy today, doing lots of...er...productive things. Through it all, I had "This Is My Father's World" stuck in my head. I mentioned it on #afp and it got replaced by a song [livejournal.com profile] aquarionical pimped, and then someone else put the theme song to Pingu in my head, and then it was once again replaced by one of [livejournal.com profile] aquarionical's songs. Yay Ferret Song!

And now I have "This Is My Father's World" stuck in my head again. I know the lyrics and everything and am seriously annoying mum (because she's singing it too now). I don't mind the song at all. In fact, it's one of the few songs I can sing perfectly and that my voice seem suited to (go figure). However, it does get annoying to have it looped in your head. I wonder what can shift it. I know "Jerusalem"(1) will, but frankly, the cure is worse than the disease. That one would be stuck in my head for days.

Help?

*wanders off singing*

ETA:

1. Better known as "The Holy City." Don't ask me why I know these things. I just do. I also know "Rock of Ages", "Lift Up Your Heads", "Just As I Am" "Onward Christian Soldiers"(2) and most other songs Mahalia Jackson sung.

2. (oh bugger)

...nor am I ignoring the world. I'm just very busy with work and uni. Work is fun, but tiring. I expect things will get better as soon as I'm on the phone full-time instead of half and half. Uni is...well, much the same as usual, only more so. I'm busy working on my assignment for astronomy class and even busier with my final assignment for Terminology. Both are very interesting and challenging.

In short, I'm enjoying myself immensely. However, I have little time, energy, or even desire to spend any real amount of time being social on #afp or msn. I do miss talking to a select few people, but for the most part I'm feeling distinctly anti-social. When I get home (and I do not have to do any work), I just want to grab a drink, jam my earphones in, crank up the shiny and curl up with a good book. Thinking of going online makes my brain do a rather convincing impression of a very bored teenager. (In other words, it rolls its eyes and goes 'meh' at me. Repeatedly. Until I get fed up and give it something stimulating and fun to do.)

I also get easily frustrated and annoyed, and I don't really want to inflict this on people. Oddly enough, mum and I are getting along famously right now, even though she manages to annoy the holy fuck out of me every other day. I know it's to do with my rather short fuse right now, and she seems to be aware of this as well. I can see her trying very hard not to be annoying (i.e. she now waits a whole 5 minutes after I've got home before launching into what she's been doing all day. In return, I actually make an effort to be interested in her stories, even though my brain fucks off to the pub the second I put the car on the driveway.)

So, what have I been doing with the vast resources of free time? Well, I've done a lot of reading. I've finished The Night's Dawn trilogy, started on Considering Phlebas, reread The Ancestor's Tale (again), am still reading my way through the Dresden Files and tonight I started on Cherryh's Chanur series.

The time not spent on working, uni, reading and keeping the house tidy is taken up by dancing around wildly on music. I'm surprised mum hasn't called the men in white on me yet (gods know I terrify the dog and cats on a daily basis with my dancing around the living room like a demented dervish.) Which brings me neatly to the pimpage. I've discovered two new (to me, okay?) bands I like very, very much:

Rasputina, and bond:
