I've started the training for my new job last week and I'm nearly at the end of the theoretical training. Next Monday I will start the practical bit. It will see me on the phones with an experienced co-worker, hopefully not making too much of a fool of myself.

Unfortunately, I'm about to (or may have already) hit the point of information overload. My brain has received so much new information it can't implement yet that it starts to shut down several other brain functions in order to deal with filing all the new stuff.

Among the functions being shut down are:

- Ability to spot humour. I will probably not recognise an attempt at humour unless it's signposted. Preferably by a big purple elephant holding up a sign reading 'I am humourous!'.

- Ability to spot and appreciate subtlety. Please use the aforementioned elephant, but give it a sign reading 'I am subtle!'.

- Language facilities. I'll try my very best not to turn into mono-syllabic woman, but expect a larger than normal occurance of meta-syntactic variables at any given time.**

- Capacity to regenerate spoons.

- Ability to cope.^^

It will pass in the next few weeks, but until then, don't ask me anything that involves me making a decision. Or having to think beyond 'tired vs shiny'. If you do, there is an equal chance of me stabbing you with my swordfish or hiding in a corner. Or getting angry. Anything that's on the books will be done and will get my full attention. I just don't want to add anything else.

** Wossnames.

^^ I'll be really cranky. And out of spoons. And out of cope.

I'm currently waiting for training to start. I've discovered I can IRC from work. I'm not sure whether this is good or bad. Further experimentation should provide conclusive evidence one way or another.

Next on the list: getting MSN to work. ;)

Opal (where I interviewed on Monday) were very impressed with me and offered me the job. I decided to go for Shell anyway (even though I could still change my mind), because it's closer by and doesn't require me going through rush hour traffic on the motorway in the morning and/or afternoon. Also, I get to faff about with more applications when working for Shell, and I get to use my language skills.

But hey, they wanted me and that makes me fairly gleeful. I is popular, I is.
sessifet: (Bouncy!)
They wanted to know more about my technical skills and I really wasn't too confident when I got out. Shell, however, was and has just offered me the job.

I said yes.

I start on Monday.

I've been in the UK 6 weeks and a day and I have a job. I'm pretty impressed.

I can has second interview with Shell tomorrow. Apparently the first two people were impressed with me and they want me to interview with the head of the Dutch helpdesk (who happens to be a fellow cloggie :)).

So...erm...Yay!
sessifet: (Bouncy!)
I got the job. Training starts monday morning.

Well, potentially at least. Final interview on Thursday. If I get it, I'll become a fulltime helldesk employee.

A new experience: updating from work!

This is going to be a fun day. I only had 3 hours of sleep last night (which one of you thought it was a good idea to pass the insomnia fairy my way?), and today we're going to have quite a few powerpoint presentations. What joy.

I fear I will have to resort to sugar to keep awake today. I should've brought my jar of G&B's.

...seeing as it's been a while. I've mostly been doing the whole "eat, sleep, wake up, go to work, come back and start over again"-routine. Very boring, and not much to say about it except 'Yay money!'
(oh, and possibly 'Why don't I ever get the normal customers on the phone?'. Depends on what the day's been like, really.)

I'm still alive, still single and happy that way, still not having fights with my mum, still studying and still looking for a job in the UK.

So nothing much has changed, apart from the aforementioned 'Yay money!' matter.

Further updates as the situation warrants. So expect dead silence for the next few weeks. :)

At least, I think I do. I'm a bit too tired to be a 100% certain, though. Training is fun, but it means getting up at 6 am in the bloody morning. This does not a happy Sessifet make. (Let us conveniently forget me having spells where I get up at 5 am without any problems. That is my own choice. This...well...this is my own choice too, seeing as I would like some money and actually enjoy training and such, but...oh damnit. That's just different and we'll leave it at that.)

Due to the wonderful public transport system, I am at work at 7.30 (!). I do get quite a bit of reading done, though (yay! for positive thinking). I have finished the Illuminatus! trilogy which leaves me thinking I really should've read it while stoned out of my tiny little brain. It's a fun book, but...odd. Very very odd.

I'm slowly getting settled in. Sammie has already stopped treating me like a guest. This means I no longer have a 30+ kg Great Dane trying to jump in my arms. Instead it means I now have a 30+ kg Great Dane trodding on my toes, dropping her rubber balls on my toes and dropping her chew toy (i.e. 3 kg cow bone) on my toes. My toes may never be the same again.

I am now happily installed at mum's place. About half of my books are in bookcases, my clothes are tidied away and the rest is ... still in boxes, unfortunately. Oh well, can't have everything all at once.

Tomorrow I start with the training for the new job. It's from 8:00 to 15:00, Monday to Friday (with an option on Saturdays as well). Should be fun.

What with the new job and getting organized here, I most likely won't be online that much the next two weeks. I promise to update when interesting stuff happens, or just to let you all know I haven't dropped off the face of the earth.

Today I've learnt that I've been missing out on jobs because the agencies don't call me. This pisses me off big time, because I specifically told them I will do any job they have for me, except outbound telemarketing.

And I do mean any job. I don't care if it's cleaning, production, or catering. I don't mind if it's just a week, or a few days, I just want something that makes me money and occupies my time. Yet, for some reason, agencies think I'm not interested in 'dirty' work.

And I can't for the life of me see why they'd think that...

I just got a phonecall telling me all training programs for April have been cancelled. So...I don't have a job.

It just isn't fucking fair.
