Oof. I hurt.
Jul. 2nd, 2011 05:31 pmThe brain decided to sulk last night and wasn't telling me why and what I could do to fix it. Going to bed like that does not make me happy and I woke up very grumpy this morning. I grumped around for a bit while approaching this in the usual way, which is to throw suggestions at the brain until something sticks. It goes roughly as follows:
'We could play Oblivion. You really wanted to yesterday.' 'Meh.'
'Baking?' 'Meh.
'Cooking?' 'Meh.'
'How about setting up the geek-cave?' 'Meh.'
Eventually, I ended up in the garden around 11:00. Six hours later and I've cleared a lot of branches in the back of the garden to allow for more light and less danger of losing an eye when back there; created a new compost heap while I wait for the old one to be cleared (a job for
azekeil and his trusty hedgetrimmer); disovered we have not a black ants' nest, but a red ants' nest too (hurray...) and discovered we have a plum tree! Well, the neighbours have one, but it's hanging over in to the back of our garden.
Also, the big bed has now been edged, most of the roots are now taken out and the base has been covered in cardboard and a layer of newspaper. Instead of making a hugelkultur bed, I'm going with the lasagna bed first. You're supposed to layer 'green' and 'brown' materials carefully, but apparently plonking down cardboard and newspaper followed by manure, compost and mulch is perfectly adequate too.
Therefore, tomorrow I will go and acquire those things. And a spade. I have no spade. This is unacceptable! I cannot be expected to garden without one! I may need to take
azekeil to act as lifter of heavy things, though, because 6 hours of gardening has left me with lots and lots of twanging muscles. Still...garden!
I should take pictures and put them online soon. Yes.
