There's a big mirror in the house. It is has a wooden frame (pine colour). It is...lacking. The frame needs painting and then I kind of have an urge to stick rusted metal keys and random brass and glass buttons to it. I tragically lack old rusted metal keys and random brass and glass buttons. Also, I do not own a hot glue gun.

I need to find an antique/random old crap store for crafty purposes. And buy myself a hot glue gun.

And possibly go to a DIY store and get All The Paint Samples so I can paint door panels in alarming colours. Though I should really confer with [livejournal.com profile] azekeil first.

Oh look, it appears that I am over my annual 'October sucks and the world is dark and horrible and I will never be happy again ever' dip.

My brother used to have a collection of old rusty keys, but I believe he got rid of them during a move some time ago. Keep an eye out for bric-a-brac stalls in your local market, they often have things like that.

I use a Loctite hot glue gun. Fairly basic, but it does the job. Available from most DIY stores for under £15.

You may not own a hot glue gun. But [livejournal.com profile] azekeil does...

I clicked on this post to say just that. It's a little broken though, you have to push the glue itself rather than squeeze the trigger, but other than that it works OK.

If you buy a hot glue gun, get a professional grade one if you can - they take longer to heat up, but they stay hot properly and don't clag up as much. Rob swears by his.

Also (and this is probably teaching you to suck eggs, but still...) keep a small pot/bowl of water nearby, because you will get hot glue on your fingers at some point and having water to stick them in right away will help it hurt less.

The "antique" stores in Gloucester Quays should have old keys and buttons and $stuff aplenty.

Alt. mirror framing. I've seen several versions of this, and I think it looks rather cool - stick loads of random plastic toys (toy soldiers /doll parts/ minifigs / cars / animals) to your frame, then spray paint them all a uniform colour. White makes them look modernist, gold or brassy looks rather rococco.

If you want random rusty things and brass bits, car boot sale.
