sessifet | (no subject)

I start my new job on the 27th. It's in town, so I get to walk/cycle there. Job and exercise: win! I've known I'm starting on the 27th for nearly two weeks now and it's got to the point where I just want to start already.

Still, the weather is lovely and looks to remain that way for a while longer. So today I cycled to the store to get tasty things for the weekend and when I came back I messed around in the garden. The new bed I made in the back of the garden is going to be the wildflower bed this year. I'll add an extra layer of branches, compost etc in the autumn, and then it'll probably become a vegetable/fruit bed next year.

The original bed I made last year has thyme, rosemary (which is not doing well in there), English lavender and regular sage (yay salvias!). I also sowed three dwarf sunflowers varieties (Teddy bear, Paquito mix and Irish Eyes), hyssop and planted one tomato plant and chilli plant to see if they survive there. If not, I still have about 10 of each left.

In April I plan to create a long bed along the fence. The idea is to sow nasturtiums and some low impact native climbers so it looks nice until autumn, at which point I hope to have collected a few plants currently on my wishlist from Alex's mum. Considering said collection requires a car journey, it's going to have to wait until I'm settled in my job, which pretty much pushes everything back until late summer. This is mildly vexing, but at least I know it will happen.

So, yes. Stuff. Stuff is happening and I'm beginning to feel that I'm actually here for the long haul. Not that I wasn't before, but...well, it's hard for me to put down roots if I don't have home, friends/family and job checked off the list. Especially not having the latter made me feel like I was just here until the wind changed or something.
