I got caught last night too, by A Civil Campaign. Ever read anything by Lois McMaster Bujold?

Hadn't heard of her, but it certainly sounds interesting. :)

I think you'd really like her. A Civil Campaign is more a comedy of manners SF style, but the others in her best-known series are SF adventures with wonderfully deep characters. Most of the series concentrates on the disabled Miles Vorkosigan who has a genius for finding trouble, as well as being something of a genius. Very funny and fast-paced.
