Wait for a poll to arrive, read up on the candidates, weigh alternatives and make your mind up, then be busy at work on polling day and remember about it ten minutes after the polls have closed. At least, that's what I tend to do. :-(
I think I read somewhere that the elections are mandatory in .nl. How wrong is this and if it is wrong do you know if there is another European country where it is true?
Nope. Unless they changed the rules on the sly after I moved, elections are still completely voluntary. I can't think of a country where elections are mandatory, really.
basically, come local election day, you put your vote in the sure and certain knowledge that you have nothing to do with democracy and unless you're voting for the majority, you may as well not bother turning up.
