I have several geek toys, and they've been giving me entirely too much lip lately. I have an iShuffle, for example. It is being...contrary. I killed some services I really think it doesn't need to make use of, thank you ever so much. Tiny, however, disagrees. Every time I do anything with it (deleting/adding/playing tracks) the conversation goes as follows:
Tiny: 'I can't find the service I need! Help! I can't play this! Why is this not available?'
Me: *clicks close and moves on* 'You can play this. You can. You don't need this.'
Tiny: 'But!'
Me: 'Shut up and play.'
Tiny: 'Wah!' *plays*
Me: 'Hmm, I've not listened to this in ages. Let's delete it.'
Tiny: 'But!'
Me: 'Do it!'
Tiny: *sulks* 'Fine. I will.'
Windows: 'I shall randomly open an explorer window you can't actually do anything in!'
Me: 'What the fuck?'
Tiny: 'See?! Install the service and it will go away!'
Me: 'I see. I won't.'
Tiny: 'Wah!'
Windows: Whatever.'
iTunes: 'I will now randomly forget where this song is located because you shut off your computer and I'm too stupid to remember and look it up when you come back!'
iShuffle: 'Not going to get those songs. Big Brother can't find them. You can press that button all you want, but I'm not listening! Lalalalalalala!'
Me: 'Oh, for the love of sweet baby cyclops...'
iShuffle: 'Nyer.'
Me: 'Look, if I wanted small obstinate objects that have a mind of their own, I would have had children, damnit!
Shiny toys: 'Nyer.'
Me: 'I give up.'
Seriously, my geek toys have a mind of their own. They have a personality. Unfortunately, these personalities come with a stubborn streak a mile wide. I really don't know where they get it from...

Technology is not, as many people think, there to make our lives easier/better. It is there to distract us and frustrate us so we don't pay attention to other things. *nods*
Totally fallen for the ploy myself. *attempts to throttle his obnoxious phone that is refusing to send a simple text message*

Date: 2008-12-09 05:20 pm (UTC)Please excuse the pointless rambling bit there. I've just spent an entire day handling calls and will probably dream of tickets that read 'customer is unable to get the sync.'
