Set up machine at home and discovered I had a full XP install CD. Ran that (had to reformat the drive as it went 'eep' and refused to install without formatting) and it's booted up to XP now. So tonight when I get home I will install All The Windows Service Packs and Updates (oh gods...). I'll then link up my own C: drive and get all the data off there and then I'll disconnect my DVD-R and DVD drive and connect my old D: drive and ferry some more stuff back and forth.

After that, faffing with sound and graphics card drivers, reinstalling NOD32, Firefox etc. Oh, and have a look at the BIOS, as the machine is chanting it's not there when booting it up.

Fun! Can I go home yet?

Oh yes, this is why I hate reinstalling XP...

SP2 not downloading. Not telling me why not, just sitting there twiddling its thumbs with no movement whatsoever.

20 minutes later: Ah! It has decided to start downloading. Ooooh, I'm excited now. Will it all get here?

10 minutes on: We have movement! We have a complete download! It's going to do something! It's...

...inspecting settings and configuration. I'm getting myself a drink.

5 minutes on: Still checking. You know, I may want to get a copy of XP that is up to date. Yeah, it'll be expensive, but also a damned sight faster...

5 minutes on: Installing! And checking. And more installing. It's going somewhe...oh. It stopped. And now it's cleaning up.

Reboot!

No, I do not wish to turn on automatic updates, thank you. I'll do that later.

And here we go with SP3. My life is so exciting...

The version of XP I installed turns everything into Dutch. It automatically directs me to the Dutch Microsoft page, puts Dutch names in Firefox etc., etc. Having already had to request geek support to be able to access my most important folder on C: has not put me in the best of moods. Currently flapping and rather pissed off. Meh.
