Today, I got a unique opportunity to find out if Snowball likes water. The short version? No.

Snowball likes the sun. Let me rephrase that: Snowball looooooooooooves the sun. Snowball will stretch out on the window sill. In the glaring sun. While it's 30 degrees. And there's no breeze. The brainless twit will actually stay here, occasionally turning over, until well done. How to deal with this?

Sigh.
Pick up Snowball.
Deposit him on cool tiles in the shade.
Watch him walk back to window sill to finish baking.

Lather, rinse, repeat until the kitten, presumably cooked and ready for consumption, staggers upstairs, flops down and starts gasping like a fish on dry land. So, I decide to help him cool down a bit by putting his paws in luke warm water. And I can tell you, he does not like it. He does not want the water to touch his paws...or any part of his body.

So, fill sink with water and put kitten in feet first. Sounds simple enough. Not with Snowball.

Because Snowball has this amazing ability to stretch his legs until they're three times longer than normal. This means that I was, in effect, holding a small, hot, squirming furry four-armed octopus, but without the ink. And with a heart breaking, earsplitting Yowl of Doom(tm). And no matter how you twist him, you can't actually get his paws in the water. Here's how I finally managed to cool him off:

- Give up
- Prepare to put down kitten.
- Watch in amazement as kitten, filled with glee at the thought of impending freedom, tries to jump to the floor, and instead hits the sink with lukewarm water.
- Giggle hysterically as kitten tries to Messiah his way out of a tiny tiny sink and failing spectacularly (I'm pretty sure Messiahs don't slip and slide their way over water, occasionally falling over)
- Relent and rescue the sodden, bedraggled mass of fur
- Towel off the kitten, and murmur apologetically as he loudly berates you for nearly drowning him in an inch of water

I am now being subjected to the Stare of Death by a scrawny, spike-haired, but cool kitten.

*giggle* sounds just like three of my four cats. Only Seti likes water. He'll insist on getting in the bath with you when you get one in winter.

*g*

My very first cat _loved_ water. She'd come running the second you turned on the tap. And the she'd sit under the trickle and look dignified.

Sounds perfectly normal.

I can't actually stop giggling at that :) We have a cat who adores the sun too. I think he's actually a plant and he feeds by photosynthesis..

*hugs*

Best to just let them get on with their sun worshipping, but make sure there's a good bowl of fresh water for them when they decide they've overheated... has always worked with ours so far - why is it always the black kitties that love the sun so much?!
