Apropos to...I have no idea, really.

I went to my local Co-Op for various bits and bobs. I don't know why I thought it was imperative that I get washing powder that day, but it was. Now, I was walking with a cane and I had considerable amounts of 'ow' going on. In the Co-Op, I encounter a small child of indeterminate gender (seriously, I couldn't tell what it was as it was bundled up in at least six layers of clothing). For some reason, my cane was extremely fascinating and this was expressed by kicking it repeatedly. Fortunately not while I was actually walking, but still, rather annoying.

Telling it to stop just led to 'No!' and giggles and more kicks. So I get a bit ticked off and eventually bend over (ow!) and asked:

'Go and get me that mop that over there, okay?'
'No! Why?'
'Because I'm going to need it to mop up your blood if you don't stop kicking my cane.'

It just stands there looking at me with wide eyes, obviously trying to work out if I'm being serious. And then it giggled and followed me around the store like a puppy, without kicking my cane again. *sigh* Ludicrous threats deter children, it would seem.

Ludicrous threats are *great* when you're a small child! And look, it stopped kicking your cane, so result sort of achieved - of course it would've been much better without the kidlet in tow!
