Excuse me while I do the Being Halfway Through to Sorting This Meter Readings Mess Without Panicking dance.*

On my moving in, there was an inventory with meter readings. I then received a bill halfway through December under 'New Occupier' telling me the estimated usage over the month of November. This is not my monkey as I did not live here then, so it's the landlord's responsibility. End of December, I got a copy of the inventory and compared them with what the company had on their records. The electricity readings were somewhat out (to the tune of 100 units more than my reading) and the gas was way out of whack (to the tune of 1050 or so units more than my reading).

After some calling and going 'oi', I got another bill (under the name New Occupier) with a correction on the electricity bill, changing the reading to the one I provided, resulting in a negative amount of money. The gas reading, however, remained the same and was another 135 units higher (estimated usage). also, a reminder to pay monies, please. Called up again and went 'oi'.

Waited for my own letter, which hasn't arrived still. Called again going 'oi' and was told that my gas meter reading was obviously wrong and generally skirting the 'you liar, you' tone of voice without actually ever getting there. Got home, took new gas reading and electricity reading (with pictures!) and called up to, once more, go 'oi' and doing a little Oi Dance**.

Turns out there is actually an ongoing dispute with the energy department about the initial readings provided when the first occupant moved in. Those readings are in line with mine (adding, of course, normal usage)[Edited for clarity: first occupant's readings are in line with mine]. The energy department is apparently taking its own sweet time getting it sorted, but it should be done in March, at which point my own readings can be put on the account and it'll all be good.

Hurray!

I did have to gulp when I saw I used about 400 kWh and 200 M3 over the past two months. That's...erm... a bit much and with Utilities Warehouse, also quite expensive. Oh well, it'll be getting warmer soon, so no need to heat up the house that much anymore. I'm presuming it's going to level out over the entire year, but it's going to be a bit expensive the first two or three months. (What with the new readings not yet in place and the previous readings being wrong, the guy on the phone was hesitant to talk about averages at the moment, which is fair. Been there, done that.)

Er...why am I waffling on about this? I'm sure it's all dreadfully boring and yawn-worthy for those not involved in this. Still...

*is proud*

I fixed a problem! Well, sort of. And there was no panicking or anything. I just went out and did it. Gosh, my life is so exciting...

*does the I Am So Grown Up dance*^

*This one may or may not involve pompoms.

* This involves waving one's hands about in a frustrated but above all rhythmic manner. Going 'oi' is only necessary if one wishes to do the Oi Rap in conjunction with the Oi Dance.

^This one definitely involves stripy over-knee socks.
