Notes in a ticket:
'Customer had 4212kb s - after changing the ADSL mode to G.DMt it had dropped to 3.6meg - this suggests a variable rate Interleaved Profile. Customer was promised 24meg and is not getting it. The customer is 6213m away from the exchange.'
No!
Nonononononono!
Noooooooooooooooooooooo!
Oh my gods, no.
Really, no.
Honestly, no.
And with the no!
Step away from the computer and the headset and go lick cars for a living or something. Because not only have you just shown that you have no idea what on earth ADSL modes do in a router, you've also made it quite clear that you have a very shaky grasp on what we Earth people call 'logic'. And you really really missed the boat on how ADSL2+ works. It's brilliant over short distances. Shoving 24meg down a line will not get them more speed when they're three counties over!
It's not fucking rocket science, people! We've explained this time and time again and you still get it wrong! You've not so much got hold of the wrong end of the stick as gone back in time a few hundred years and you are now blundering around in a dark cave, randomly humping stalactites in the hope of enlightenment, while five hundred yards away the sapling that is destined to be the tree from which the stick will be fashioned some day is swaying in the wind and sighing that no one ever comes over to say hi.
Gods, I could just explode with frustration.
