Jun. 5th, 2009 02:34 pmAfter the Rover75 went 'splodey earlier this week, a new car was acquired. It is another Rover and it is an automatic. I...don't deal well with automatics. There's is a lack of physical connection to the car I'm driving. I've always driven stick and prefer it. However, this one isn't bad.
It's well-balanced, sticks to the road and does not corner like a whale like the previous Rover (sorry,
da_pol, it did really do that :)).
And I only face-planted* onto the steering wheel once. I'd say that's a win.
* Yes, I did. Don't laugh.

Date: 2009-06-05 04:16 pm (UTC)My technque is to put my left ankle on the floor under my right thigh, thereby being NOWHERE NEAR the pedals. You learn progression in your right leg, which is what the accelerator and brakes need, and sharp solid application with your left leg, which is what the clutch needs but has NO PLACE while driving an auto.
Works for me, anyway

Date: 2009-06-05 06:34 pm (UTC)I seem to have an easy time getting used to autos, because on these occasions I am *really* *concentrating* for the first few miles ;-)
Never tried one in .uk....
